Flash for Crash

Accident Exchange’s bespoke anti-fraud unit, APU, caused news waves in August when it revealed a new tactic increasingly being used by crash for cash gangs in the UK and even coined a snappy new name for it – ‘Flash for Crash’.

The scam involves the fraudster flashing his headlights at an innocent fellow motorist, as though inviting them to pull out of a junction or side road, before deliberately causing a collision and then fraudulently claiming insurance monies.

With a big splash in front of a million viewers on BBC TV news warning motorists to be on the lookout for the new scam, the story soon went stellar, reaching the pages of six of the national newspapers and gaining traction on many other TV and radio stations.
